De regering van Groot Brittannië trekt 700 miljoen dollar uit voor de installatie van camera's in de huizen van zo'n 20.000 gezinnen, om bijvoorbeeld te controleren of de kinderen wel op tijd naar bed gaan, hun huiswerk maken, naar school gaan en gezonde maaltijden eten. George Orwell's '1984' begint letterlijk waarheid te worden in het land, waar nu al meer camera's zijn geplaatst dan in heel Europa bij elkaar, zo lezen we weer eens bij Xandernieuws.

daar ontkennen ze het in elk geval ook.
Maar ik zie het in elk geval nog wel gaan gebeuren hoor!

Ed Balls MP has hit back at claims that thousands of families in England were to be put under 24-hour CCTV surveillance to change their bad behaviour.
A report in the Sunday Express newspaper said:
Thousands of the worst families in England are to be put in “sin bins” in a bid to change their bad behaviour, Ed Balls announced yesterday.
The Children’s Secretary set out £400million plans to put 20,000 problem families under 24-hour CCTV super-vision in their own homes. They will be monitored to ensure that children attend school, go to bed on time and eat proper meals.
Asked on Twitter if this was true, cabinet minister Ed Balls said it was “complete and total nonsense”.
When prompted further, Kerry McCarthy MP replied on twitter saying: “We already have the Family Intervention Project in Bristol. No CCTV cameras in their homes! Have a look at this: http://bit.ly/Rzgjz”
In other words the government has launched a Family Intervention project which is currently being trialled in Bristol.
She added later: “Yes if you read Express report, that’s what it says. Scheme already exists, Bristol was one of earliest pilots.”
And then: “It’s the same project The first comment on Express site says it all – these are families from hell. No CCTV as Ed said.”
And finally: “If u write off such families, it continues thru generations, downwards spiral – only intensive intervention works.”
It’s unclear where the Sunday Express got the idea that families were to be put under 24 hours CCTV surveillance.
Zelf ben ik helemaal niet voor zulke cameraprojecten. Volgens dit blog zou het dus onduidelijk zijn waar The Express de informatie vandaan heeft.

UPDATE: Further research shows that the Express didn’t quite have all its facts straight. This scheme is active, and the numbers are fairly accurate (if estimated), but the mentions of actual cameras in people’s homes are exaggerated. The truth is that the scheme can take the most troublesome families out of their homes and move them, temporarily, to a neutral, government-run compound. Here they will be under 24-hour supervision. CCTV cameras are not specifically mentioned, not are they denied, but 24-hour “supervision” certainly doesn’t rule this out from the camera-loving Brits.
It remains, though, that this is still excessively intrusive into the private lives of citizens, cameras or not. I have added links to the source and also more reliable reports. Thanks to everyone who wrote in.

Men zou eigenlijk de woordvoerder van Ed Balls moeten mailen of bellen.
heeft de dictator al zijn onderdanen in zijn macht.
Nog geen 15 jaar geleden konden we om bovenstaande zin lachen: fantasie, zou zo'n vaart niet lopen, etc.
Nu kunnen we met een beetje kennis van de electronica die we dagelijks gebruiken of op internet of tv zien ons allemaal reeele mogelijkheden voorstellen die "du moment"
misbruikt zouden kunnen worden. Brrr...geen wereld om met plezier kinderen op te gaan zetten.
